Rolex Explorer II 16570 (2009)

Introduced in 1971, the Rolex Explorer II was developed for adventurers working in environments where distinguishing day from night could prove difficult. The long-running Ref. 16570 remains particularly admired for its classic 40mm proportions and understated tool-watch character, bridging the gap between vintage and modern generations of the Explorer II.

This Rolex Explorer II Ref. 16570 features a 40mm Oystersteel case with a black dial, applied luminous hour markers and a contrasting 24-hour hand. Its fixed steel bezel is engraved with a 24-hour scale, allowing the wearer to distinguish day from night or track a second time zone. A sapphire crystal and Oyster bracelet complete the robust design, with water resistance originally rated to 100 metres.

Powering the watch is the Rolex calibre 3186 automatic movement, featuring an independently adjustable local hour hand and offering an approximately 48-hour power reserve. Offered with box and card, this watch shows superficial signs of wear inkeeping with careful use (as pictured). Circa 2009. Covered by our 24 month J. Farren Price warranty.

  Brand-new and unworn, supplied by J. Farren Price as an authorised dealer with the applicable manufacturer warranty.
• New Old Stock (NOS)
  An unworn watch from an earlier production period. Minor storage or handling marks may be present.
• Mint
  An exceptional pre-owned example presenting in near-new condition, with no visible wear.
• Excellent
  A very well-preserved watch showing only light signs of careful use.
• Very Good
  A well-presented watch showing normal signs of use, including minor scratches or surface wear.
• Good
  A watch showing more noticeable signs of regular use and age, while remaining presentable.

Vintage watches
Condition is assessed in the context of the watch's age. Natural patina and period-appropriate ageing may be present and do not necessarily detract from its grade.
