Before becoming TAG Heuer in 1985, Heuer was one of the most respected names in Swiss chronograph production, building its reputation through decades of innovation in motorsport timing and professional tool watches. Vintage timepieces bearing the original Heuer name are highly regarded by collectors, representing the brand's most influential era prior to the TAG acquisition.
The Heuer Autavia "Viceroy" is one of the most recognisable and historically significant chronographs of the 1970s. Made famous through Heuer's landmark partnership with Viceroy cigarettes in the United States, the model became one of the brand's greatest commercial successes and helped cement the Autavia's place in motorsport history. Today, original Viceroy examples remain highly sought after for their distinctive design, historical importance, and growing collectability.
This Ref. 1163V features the classic black dial with contrasting white chronograph sub-dials and white hour markers, framed by a black Tachymeter bezel. The 42mm stainless steel case is fitted with a plexiglass crystal and paired with a rubber strap, preserving the bold, functional aesthetic that made the Autavia a favourite among racing enthusiasts. Presented in excellent vintage condition, this is a superb example of one of Heuer's most iconic chronographs.
Powered by the legendary Heuer Calibre 12 automatic chronograph movement, one of the world's first commercially successful automatic chronograph calibres, it represents a milestone in Swiss watchmaking history. Offered in watch-only configuration. Circa 1973. Covered by our 24 month J. Farren Price warranty.
